Business Management Training Provider in Vancouver, Dynamic Achievement Releases Top 10 Resolutions Employers Should Make for 2010

Vancouver, Canada, December 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Conference Board of Canada defines employee engagement as workers feeling “mentally and emotionally connected to their jobs,” with a resulting willingness “to apply discretionary effort to help their company succeed.”

However, studies show that the numbers of workers who feel that kind of engagement with their work are in the minority – and that affects profits.

A recent worldwide study of 18,000 employees conducted by professional services firm Towers Perrin shows that only 21 per cent of the employees surveyed feel engaged in their work. The firm also reports that companies with larger proportions of engaged employees saw their operating incomes increase 19 per cent, while companies with the lowest percentages showed year-to-year declines of 33 per cent.

“Effective leaders can dramatically increase employee engagement by considering just 10 key points,” says Vancouver-based expert on corporate culture and leadership Eitan Sharir, President of Dynamic Achievement Group. Sharir has helped companies and organizations such as Coca Cola, TELUS, London Drugs, Terasen, Kwantlen College/University and Interior Savings Credit Union with leadership development and in building positive cultures that create highly engaged and productive employees.

“Employers who act now to improve employee engagement will gain the best hedge they can get against costly turnover. If employers think of these points as New Year’s resolutions they can keep for 2010, they’ll have made a good start on getting the most from their workers,” Sharir says.

Top 10 Employee Engagement Resolutions for 2010:

1. Challenge your employees, and challenge yourself to provide more interesting work for them – boring jobs lead to a lack of interest.
2. Tell your employees about the company’s vision – together you should be striving to reach the same goals.
3. Provide feedback daily on what should be changed or improved – don’t let problems pile up, leading to blasts of criticism.
4. Provide praise immediately when it is earned – everyone wants to hear good feedback more than bad.
5. Let employees know their work is making an important contribution to the company or organization – they need to know their efforts count.
6. Let employees have more control over such things as their schedules and work hours – they’ll take more ownership of their work.
7. Work in teams – teamwork helps incubate new ideas and enthusiasm.
8. Be proud of your company and your accomplishments – so that employees can have pride in their work and their contributions too.
9. Set the example – by your being an honest and hard-working leader, employees know the standard they also must meet, and they will respect someone who is willing “to get their hands dirty” like them.
10. Consider your employees as more valuable than any other company asset - and let them know you value them as such.
