Pith-e Productions Launches Safety Geeks: SVI Web TV Movie

Ex-General Hospital Star Brittney Powell, show creators and actors Tom Konkle and David Beeler star in an ambitious, completely independent Web TV Movie, Safety Geeks: SVI.

Los Angeles, CA, February 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A web TV movie made from the first season of the comedy Safety Geeks: SVI Safety Geeks: SVI, running a little over an hour is available on the web. Not only does joining the episodes into one show allow the full effect of the narrative, but the momentum which builds as a consequence then aids the story continuity in many ways — jokes pay off with bigger laughs and character relationships become more clearly delineated. The original eleven episodes of Safety Geeks completed their first season in December of 2009 and the producers and fans of the show are soliciting nominations for the show, cast and crew for the Streamy Awards an award given to peers in the internet industry. As a "Web TV Movie" the show has more visual composite effects shots than the first three Star Wars movies combined at 1,200+ and, very unusually, that's in a comedy.

Actors Tom Konkle and David Beeler are the writers and producers of the internet series, as well as the British comedy series "Invention with Brian Forbes" and mockumentary, "The Archaeology of Comedy" on Mevio. Safety Geeks: SVI is a comedy series that uses live actors in an all-green screen environment to achieve intentional surrealism and nonsensical madness. It is a "procedural" comedy in that it takes the popular genre of procedural investigations as a peg on which to hang the Adult Swim-like craziness of their world. According to show creators Tom Konkle and David Beeler, the show plans to use innovative technology and ideas to create 100 percent of the surreal sets and vehicles.

The production team includes Roger Tonry, Mike Smith, Thor Melsted and casting director Liz Paulson. It is however the jazz-like surreal, silly narrative, characters and situations that also make this show unlike anything in internet and traditional media. It stars David Beeler as Reginald Syngen-Smythe, Tom Konkle as Budwin Yaker and Brittney Powell as Dr. Randi Minky, Benton Jennings as Hopkins along with Jim Woods, Mary Cseh, Mark Teich, Ransford Dougherty, Laura Hayes, Frank Payne and many others.

Safety Geeks started as eleven distinct episodes now combined much how traditional television used to combine episodes into a TV movie and airing as a new format and experience. The "Web TV Movie" is a new long form approach to the live-action, innovative show that combines the familiar form and structure of investigative shows with the fresh anarchic free form of Adult Swim while drawing on the dryness of British humor, yet with a more "in your face" American feel and lots of visual gags David Samuels, CEO of KoldCast.TV said, “...the long form of Safety Geeks: SVI provides a superior entertainment experience.” Tom Konkle, writer, producer, editor, co-composer of the series who plays Budwin Yacker said, “Safety Geeks is a surreal piece that pays off with a longer arc. There’s a continuum to the web movie where you don’t miss characters who may not appear in one episode because you just saw them and there is no gap in the flow of the story.

When we were creating the series, we had so much post with all of the effects — all of the backgrounds are either CGI, photo plates or 2D for 3D composites, that we released episodes every 3 to 4 weeks to allow time to create the world of Safety Geeks. Now, it flows as a seamless whole which is how it was conceived when we first wrote it.” Dave Beeler, co-writer/producer who plays Reginald Syngen-Smythe said, “It’s a beautiful unification of what was kicking around in our heads and making Tom and me laugh. Watching this as a continuous movie is a new experience than say, five to seven minute increments as the continuous whole is so much nicer.”

Safety Geeks: SVI was recently sited in a New York Times article on the coming of longer web series and has been quickly building a following among comedy and science fiction fans, self-professed geeks, and lovers of Monty Python and Adult Swim. This live action series plays like a living comic book using special effects to create a "funny" Sin City-type world." Watch it in HD in it’s entirety as intended on KoldCast.
