Freehold, NJ, February 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Gerardo Goldberger, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Freehold, NJ; multisport coach Tom Manzi of Training Bible Coaching, Pt. Pleasant; and Doug Rice of Race Forum magazine are presenting a “Sports Medicine Symposium and Coaching Clinic” on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at CentraState Wellness Center, 901 West Main Street, Freehold, New Jersey.

The symposium is designed for New Jersey’s endurance and multisport athletes, including triathletes, duathletes, cyclists, runners, and swimmers, from beginners to elite level. Nationally renowned doctors, coaches and athletes will present lectures and offer one-on-one consultations to participants on health-related techniques, training, nutrition and equipment. Athletes will be able to receive analysis of their swimming stroke, running technique and oxygen consumption, and to evaluate shoes and bicycles.

“This is a novel concept, to integrate the coaching techniques and methodology with sports medicine for injury prevention in high-performing athletes,” Dr. Goldberger said. “This is the premise of the conference.” Because he, himself, is an athlete, Dr. Goldberger has first-hand knowledge of the strains, sprains, and joint problems of the many athletes who rely on him for training advice and treatment. Dr. Goldberger serves the communities of Freehold, NJ (Monmouth County) and Monroe Township, NJ (Middlesex County) as part of the team at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI). AOSMI provides a range of services, including sports medicine, joint replacement, fracture care, spine care, work injury care, hand and wrist care, physiatry, foot and ankle care, and osteoporosis care.

A new topic for this year’s seminar is “Cartilage Restoration for the High Performance Athlete.” The Cartilage Restoration Center of New Jersey is a new division of the Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, located at AOSMI’s office in Freehold, New Jersey.

Dr. Goldberger, who served as a field physician at the 1996 Olympic Games and the 1994 Soccer World Cup, will be available throughout the day to assist coaches and therapists with multidisciplinary evaluations. Multisport coaches will be available to give the final analysis and summary recommendations to each athlete, and also develop objectives to meet the athletes’ goals.

As part of AOSMI’s Patient-Centered, Patient-Focused Care™ philosophy, Dr. Goldberger keeps up to date on the latest technological advances in the field of minimally invasive shoulder and knee arthroscopy as well as repair of other joints, and serves residents of the communities of Colts Neck, Englishtown, Freehold, Howell, Jackson, Manalapan, Marlboro, Monroe, Morganville, and other towns in New Jersey. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers University and a medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, Iowa; completed his orthopedic residency at Pinnacle Health Systems, Community General Hospital, Pennsylvania; and was trained there in the most advanced surgical reconstruction techniques of the knee and shoulder.

In addition to his work at the Freehold and Monroe Township locations of AOSMI, Dr. Goldberger serves as the chairman of the Department of Orthopedics, CentraState Medical Center. He holds hospital privileges at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, CentraState Medical Center, and University Johnson Surgicenter. He is also a clinical examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

A number of professional athletes will attend the sports medicine symposium in Freehold to share their experiences with the attendees, including Ken Glah, who has competed in Kona, at the Triathlon World Championship, for a record of over 25 consecutive races and is considered the most decorated triathlete in the history of the sport.

Topics included in the symposium are “How to Plan Race Week & Race Day,” “Tips and Info for Traveling to Destination Races,” and “Strength Training for Endurance Athletes,” along with shoe evaluations and bike-fitting sessions, among other programs.

The symposium also features a collaboration between coaches and medical professionals to address injury prevention in orthopedic surgery and podiatry, and presentations related to cardiac and pulmonary preparation for endurance events. Physical therapists and trainers will provide individual instruction to athletes on enhancing performance through proper stretching techniques, core strengthening and pelvic stabilization.

The cost is $79.00 before January 31, then $99.00 until the event is full. For more information, call Tom Manzi at (732) 948-3572 or visit www.AdvancedOrthoSports.com.
