Assassination City Roller Derby and Operation USA Partner to Provide Earthquake Relief in Haiti

Assassination City Roller Derby hosts charity mini exhibition bout supporting earthquake relief in Haiti with a portion of proceeds donated to Operation USA.

Dallas, TX, February 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Assassination City Roller Derby has always been active in giving back to the local community, but on February 21 at 6 pm, the ladies of derby are taking it international with the Stars vs. Stripes charity mini exhibition bout supporting earthquake relief in Haiti. After the bout, the league will host an all-ages open skate providing fans the opportunity to skate with their favorite derby girls. This bout is not BYOB, but concessions will be available. Regular skate rental is included with the purchase of a $6 ticket. (Speed or inline skate rentals are $3 extra.) The league will donate $1 of every ticket sold to Operation USA, so grab your camp chairs and watch the girls battle it out for a great cause.

“We have been both honored and amazed by the outpouring of support from the public for our efforts in Haiti,” says Alison Deknatel, Operation USA’s Director of Communication. “It is truly gratifying to see so many individuals and groups, including Assassination City Roller Derby, putting together events to raise funds for Haiti. The need there is great – and raising awareness through events like this one are a terrific help.”

According to Daisy Shoots, the league’s non-profit contact, "Assassination City has a history of supporting worthy charities, and nothing is more important than helping a country that experiences such a loss of life and culture in a single day. Operation USA has been working in Haiti for years on education and sports programs for school-aged children. They have knowledge of the country and culture, as well as a history of quick and effective disaster response. We are very excited to be working with them to achieve their current goal of helping Haiti rebuild itself after the recent devastating events.”

Tickets to the bout can only be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $6. Kids 10 and under get in free. Doors open at 6pm at Dad’s Broadway Skateland, 3022 Moon Drive, Mesquite, TX 75150.

Established in 2005, Assassination City Roller Derby, Dallas County’s only women’s flat track roller derby league, is a proud member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. For the 2010 season schedule, please visit www.acderby.com.
