ID Theft Quiz Announces That LifeLock and FBI-LEEDA Host Identity Theft Training Sessions in Cities Across the U.S.

As part of its effort to educate law enforcement and increase the knowledge-base surrounding identity theft, LifeLock and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association are sponsoring a series of upcoming identity theft summits for 2010.

Tempe, AZ, February 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Law enforcement officers at federal, state and local levels work every day to combat identity theft crimes and put identity thieves behind bars. Critical to their ongoing efforts are initiatives that increase identity theft awareness and knowledge of current identity theft trends, new scams and “best-practice” investigative methods. As part of its effort to educate law enforcement and increase the knowledge-base surrounding identity theft, LifeLock, Inc. and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) are sponsoring a series of upcoming identity theft summits for 2010. These day-long training sessions will be hosted in selected cities nationwide, and will provide local and statewide law enforcement officials with the latest identity theft information. The summits are interactive and participants are actively encouraged to contribute their own experiences and strategies, and to share both investigative challenges as well as success stories. Each summit will address a range of identity theft issues that include:

- Neighborhood Identity Theft
- Employer Identity Theft Losses
- Relevant Identity Theft Laws
- Community Outreach
- High Technology Identity Theft
- Identity Theft Awareness And Protection Strategies
- Databases To Assist In Identity Theft Investigations
- Investigative Techniques

In 2009, this highly-successful series of informational events was held in 12 different cities across the country—from Orlando to Detroit to Los Angeles—with more than 1,243 law enforcement officials from 403 different agencies in attendance. Host cities for early 2010 include Charleston, South Carolina, Austin, Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Spokane, Washington.

In a recent interview, Lifelock CEO Todd Davis commented, “... it is vital that we help law enforcement in any way we can to better understand this crime and learn the most effective techniques for protecting American consumers… as we know, identity thieves continue to find elusive ways to prosper off of innocent victims, making the job for law enforcement officials even tougher. With these intensive training summits, officials can become better equipped with solid investigative techniques and best practices to combat identity theft.”

There is little doubt that police and other law enforcement must continue to work hard to stay abreast of changes in identity theft crime. According to Javelin Strategy & Research’s 2009 “Identity Fraud Survey Report,” identity thieves are working harder than ever to exploit the public. Making it more necessary than ever that law enforcement professionals continue to work toward a greater understanding of current crime trends and develop new tools and strategies to fight identity theft.
