Greater Valley Group to Host Regional Impact Forum Feb. 25

Greater Valley Group announced today that it will host a regional economic impact forum for members of the media and dignitaries to examine the influence of projects planned for development in the Greater Valley Area.

West Point, GA, February 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Greater Valley Group announced today that it will host a regional economic impact forum Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Discovery Center, 1791 O.G. Skinner Drive in West Point, for members of the media and dignitaries to examine the influence of projects planned for development in the Greater Valley Area.

The forum will be headlined by Dr. Judson Edwards, principal of Edwards Economics, LLC and Director of the Center for International Business and Economic Development and Associate Professor of Economics at Troy University.

Edwards will share his findings from a comprehensive analysis he completed highlighting the financial impact Greater Valley Group will have over a 10-year period on mixed-use, residential, commercial and recreation-based activity projects in the four county region of Chambers and Lee Counties in Alabama and Harris and Troup Counties in Georgia.

“There is a lot of excitement in the Greater Valley Area right now,” said Walter Shealy, Greater Valley Group president and CEO. “While Kia and the automotive suppliers have brought thousands of jobs to the region - and they are bringing many more - GVG is also creating new jobs in a wide variety of fields. Dr. Edwards’ analysis shows that we will create more than 14,000 jobs by 2018. We, too, have already started, and we’re very proud of our work.”

Edwards’ study used a combination of primary and secondary data sources applying standard and advanced economic modeling methods. The results demonstrate an economic and fiscal impact of approximately $1.5 billion in total output over the life of GVG’s projects due primarily to the extraordinary amount of construction activity.

Over a 10 year period, Edward’s research projected the following:
- $1.527 billion in total output
- $317.9 million in employee compensation
- $30.9 in total indirect business tax collection
- 14,208 total jobs created from construction
- $317.9 million in total employee compensation from construction
- $60.9 million in total annual permanent compensation
