MUMC Designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has granted the breast imaging services at MUMC in Savannah full accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Savannah, GA, March 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The breast imaging services at MUMC are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

To earn accreditation, MUMC had to undergo a rigorous peer review and evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists. They evaluated each breast imaging modality (image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs) before recommending accreditation.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
