Fort Myers, FL, March 18, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- ArtFest Fort Myers’ “Art Under 20” exhibit and competition was held at Fort Myers Toyota New Work Truck Center Gallery. The Art Under 20 exhibit and competition has been a part of ArtFest Fort Myers since its inception ten years ago. The extremely talented student artists who won the top awards in Art Under 20, which took place at ArtFest Fort Myers on February 6th and 7th, were honored on February 23rd at the awards reception.
Graciously hosted by Ft. Myers Toyota at their Fort Myers Toyota New Work Truck Center, ArtFest Fort Myers presented $6,000 in awards to the winning Lee County high school students. The Art Under 20 award reception included an opportunity for refreshments while viewing the winning artwork, followed by the formal presentation of the award checks.
Vice President of Ft. Myers Toyota, Pamela Templeton, said, “The talent these young people display simply amazes us. We are honored to have them exhibit their work in our Truck Center Gallery. It is so exciting to be able to assist this wonderful program that provides support and encouragement for these young artists. It is such a pleasure meet the participants, their families and teachers.”
At this season’s Art Under 20, each of the 226 local high school students from 16 Lee County high schools submitted one entry. The student art was exhibited at the fine art festival and was previewed by thousands of festival patrons. Art Under 20 judges, Susan Mills, Tracy Cullimore, and Doug Heslep had the difficult task of selecting the winners from among these talented students.
Awards were given in the categories of drawing, photography, painting, three-dimensional and mixed media. The cash award levels were as follows:
$900 for Best of Show
$400 for First Place
$200 for Second Place
$100 for Third Place
$50 for Honorable Mention
Festival attendees also voted for the People’s Choice winner, resulting in a $300 cash award.
Through the generosity of the Fewster family, two additional awards were added to the competition this season: the Fewster Family Scholarship Award and the McBLT Ventures Art Teacher Award.
The Best of Show Award Winner was Kesley Hasten, a student at Mariner High School, and her piece was entered under the drawing category.
