Earth Day Celebrated in East Harlem

The Nourishing Kitchen of New York City will be hosting an Earth Day Celebration in East Harlem on April 22nd.

East Harlem, NY, March 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This Earth Day, April 22nd, The Nourishing Kitchen of New York City aims to make East Harlem a little greener. In a neighborhood where residents are hard pressed to find fresh produce, much less local or organic products, Earth Day can serve as a stark reminder of the environmental injustice that so often leaves New York’s low-income communities disadvantaged. This Earth Day the Nourishing Kitchen will invite residents of the East Harlem community to join them in NYRP Target East Harlem garden (415 E 117th St. between Pleasant and 1st Avenue) from 4pm-6pm.

“Normally when people think of the green movement they associate it with a certain economic background. This Earth Day the Nourishing Kitchen of New York City will demonstrate that the green movement and good nutrition are for everyone, regardless of economic background” –Founder and Executive Director Gina Puzzanghera

The Kitchen will offer workshops on planting apartment herb gardens, demonstrations on cooking locally, and other tips on living green on a budget. The kitchen will be joined by additional non-profits including Transportation Alternatives, The Manhattan Land Trust, and Diabetes IMPACT so that residents can learn how to live and eat green and healthy. Residents will also be awarded green giveaways including reusable bags from Whole Foods Market and energy efficient light bulbs to help them on the path to low impact living.
