Philadelphia Nonprofit Center Presents Workshop on Transitioning to Nonprofit Careers

Lay-offs and cutbacks in businesses have resulted in increasing number of individuals interested in transitioning to the nonprofit world. The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University's School of Business will present a workshop on May 21, 2010, to help prepare for profit professionals for the realities of the nonprofit sector.

Philadelphia, PA, April 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In response to a dramatic increase in inquiries from people wanting to find jobs in the nonprofit sector, The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University’s School of Business in Philadelphia is offering a l/2 day program on May 21 that answers the question: So You Want to Work in a Nonprofit?

This workshop, presented by Peter Doris, a human resources expert with more than 30 years experience in all aspects of the field, including career transition, will help clarify what’s involved in nonprofit work. It runs from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, 2100 Arch St., Philadelphia. The cost is $50 for Members of The Nonprofit Center and $75 for Non-Members.
Among the topics to be covered are: understanding the structure and dynamics of the nonprofit sector, applying current skills to a nonprofit career, how nonprofit governance affects those who work in the sector, the fundamental role fundraising plays and the creation of a career search action plan.

“This program is ideal for people who are considering leaving the for-profit world to explore a new career in the large and diverse nonprofit sector,” said Doris. “Additionally, outplacement counselors who are working with employees who are being laid off will find valuable information to support their clients’ transitions,” he added.

“With one in four jobs in Philadelphia in the nonprofit sector,” Doris added, “this is certainly an opportunity job-seekers should not overlook.”

Online registration is available on The Nonprofit Center's website or by calling 215-951-1701.
