NSCS Announces Recipients of National Leadership Council Award

Washington, DC, April 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Three exceptional NSCS members have been awarded the National Leadership Council (NLC) Award. This award is presented to members who exemplify NSCS’ pillars of scholarship, leadership and service.

Congratulations to:

First place- Maya Suresh, a junior majoring in finance at the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities.
Second place -Brittany Dong, a junior majoring in pre-medicine at Mississippi State University.
Third place- Cassi Konopasek, a sophomore majoring in biochemistry at Regis University.

“These three members have demonstrated natural leadership and integrity. They have created a positive impact on their campuses and in their communities,” said Blair Edwards, Senior Manager, Member Engagement.

The first place recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship while both second and third will receive $500 scholarships. Judges for the award included several members of the NSCS National Leadership Council, which acts as a student advisory board to the national NSCS office.

Judging criteria included essays regarding academic accomplishments, service, leadership roles and integrity.

“The NLC Award is a way for members to honor other members for their accomplishments,” said Stephen E. Loflin, Executive Director and Founder of NSCS. “It is a unique award because it is evaluated and presented specifically by other NSCS members.”

The NLC Award, previously known as the Exemplary Scholar Award, was created by NSCS’ student leadership body, the National Leadership Council in 2009.
