Assemblyman Weisenberg to be Honored at South Nassau’s 26th Annual Golf Outing

Proceeds raised by South Nassau Communities Hospital's 26th Annual Golf Outing will support South Nassau’s Center for Advanced Orthopedics and Long Island Joint Replacement Institute™ (LIJRI).

Oceanside, NY, May 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In appreciation of his efforts to improve the lives of others, and for his years of dedicated service to the community, South Nassau Communities Hospital has named Assembly Member Harvey Weisenberg as the honoree of the hospital’s 26th Annual Golf Outing to be held Thursday, June 24, at The Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor and Middle Bay Country Club in Oceanside. Proceeds raised by the outing will support South Nassau’s Center for Advanced Orthopedics and Long Island Joint Replacement Institute™ (LIJRI).

“Throughout his legislative career as an assemblyman and Long Beach City president and councilman, Assemblyman Weisenberg has been a loyal supporter of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s mission and a steadfast advocate for the communities and residents we serve,” said the hospital’s president and CEO, Joseph A. Quagliata. “He is also revered for his enduring commitment to meeting the needs of those with physical and mental disabilities.”

Assemblyman Weisenberg has been a tireless champion of South Nassau, securing funding to support patient education programs that improve birth outcomes for low-income women, as well as funding for major capital improvements, including expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department, and, most recently, for the creation of the hospital’s Center for Cardiovascular Health.

Throughout his legislative career, Assemblyman Weisenberg has been a staunch backer for people with disabilities. He spearheaded the development of Angela’s House and Angela’s House II – the only facilities on Long Island to care for medically fragile children – and led the effort to build a respite suite at Stony Brook Hospital’s Childhood Cancer Center for family members of children with cancer. He has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for his dedication to enhancing the quality of life of those with physical and mental challenges. Among the organizations that have recognized his work in this area are the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State, the American Heart Association, and the Association for Children with Down Syndrome.

Most recently, he was named Honorary Chair of the Friedberg Jewish Community Center’s Sunrise Day Camp, the first and only day camp in New York State for children who are being treated for cancer and cancer-related disorders. His work to improve care delivery and services for those with disabilities continues. He co-sponsored legislation to preserve Timothy’s Law, a mental health parity bill, has sponsored numerous bills to address alcoholism and substance abuse, and currently sponsors a measure to create a New York State Autism council.

The outing’s golfers will compete for low gross score, low net score, nearest to the pin, longest drive, most accurate drive, and hole-in-one prizes.

The afternoon of golf will be followed by an evening of fine dining, camaraderie, and fun, including a lavish buffet; raffle prizes ranging from tickets to professional sporting events to foursomes at the area’s most prestigious courses; and golf clubs and accessories by Nike, TaylorMade, and Callaway.
