AB Tutor Control Supports Thin Client Network at Stoke Damerel Community College

Ripley, United Kingdom, May 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Stoke Damerel Community College first invested in AB Tutor Control in 2008 when issues became apparent with their existing classroom management system. AB Tutor Control was selected to provide a more flexible and stable support tool to the college's dynamic thin client environment.

Stoke Damerel provides education to years 7 to 13 and has over 1400 pupils. The inner city community college has constantly achieved great results and currently stands at 12th in the country for CVA score. AB Tutor Control is used throughout the college on staff laptops and runs on 13 terminal servers, with around 500 Windows based thin clients and up to 60 clients on each It is also used in their ICT suites in classrooms of up to 32 PC’s.

The thin client network was first installed in 2004 when the Stoke Damerel chose to improve its existing ICT facilities. The college required a more streamlined work flow and wanted to increase support to teachers and students. The new set-up succeeded in centralising the network, however the college still struggled to find a classroom management tool that would work well within the thin client network.

AB Tutor Control was selected for trial after being recommended by a network manager from another school. The solution was tested against competitive products and was chosen for its stability, excellent performance with terminal services and its deployment options over the large school. Since purchasing AB Tutor Control, Stoke Damerel has continued to buy new licenses and upgraded to version 6 in 2009.

“We have been working with AB Tutor Control for a couple of years now and have found it to be invaluable” explains Gary Holder, IT Manager of Stoke Damerel Community College. “It has far exceeded our expectations and the teachers love it as it helps them manage networked classrooms effectively and really focus on teaching.”

Before AB Tutor Control was purchased, teachers were finding it hard to keep students on task. They now make the most of software's powerful policy features to restrict access to applications, block internet access and monitor key words to help keep the students on track. Teachers are able to monitor the students as they work and use the screen capture to provide a record of the student's activities.

AB Tutor Control has been designed from the ground up to ensure it is flexible and intuitive to support a wide range of ICT applications. AB Tutor Control integrates with a whole range of thin client networks, including Microsoft's latest Windows Multipoint Server 2010, to offer a fully integrated multiple-user experience. Using AB Tutor Control, network administrators can manage classroom groups and apply policies easily, helping to centralise this potentially complex environment.
