Learn to Sail and Help Fight Cancer with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Newest Fundraising Program

If learning how to sail is something you have always wanted to do, but never thought possible, think again. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s newest fundraising program, Sail For a Cure, will have you sailing the Bay while raising vital funds for blood cancer research and patient services.

San Francisco, CA, May 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in partnership with Club Nautique Sailing School, offers this unique program to both beginning sailors and those new to the sport of sailing. In a safe and supportive environment, Sail For a Cure participants will learn sailing techniques and terminology, spend quality time on the water with fun, like-minded people and pursue the exciting goal of participating in the prestigious Leukemia Cup Regatta on October 2-3, 2010. Participants will also receive fundraising support in the form of an online fundraising webpage, sample letters and emails and a mentor to help keep them on track. Honored Skippers, or blood cancer survivors, provide a source of inspiration and connection to the cause.

"We are thrilled to partner with Club Nautique and offer this special fundraising and sailing training program to would-be sailors," said Jennifer Fagerstrom, Executive Director for the Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. "And it’s comprehensive. At the end of the program, participants can test for their sailing certification, participate in the top charity regatta in the nation and help in the fight against cancer. Their fundraising efforts will support less toxic and more targeted therapies and help patients live longer, better lives."

Sail For a Cure participants are also invited to the VIP Regatta Dinner on October 2nd with guest speaker Russell Coutts. Coutts is one of the world’s most successful sailors, with (amongst others) four victories in the America’s Cup and one Olympic gold medal.
