Goscor Engines and Forestry Announced the Launch of a Brand New Mobile Fire-Fighting Pump in South Africa

Johannesburg, South Africa, November 24, 2006 --(PR.com)-- According to the CSIR, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest incidence of fires in the world. These fires are caused both by humans as well as wild fires, causing severe damage to humans, animals, vegetation and infrastructure. A total of R 300 million was lost in 2002 due to wild fires – this amount is calculated based on the cumulative loss to human life, vegetation, livestock and infrastructure.

With these staggering statistics in mind, Goscor Engines and Forestry decided to introduce a mobile Fire-fighting pump targeted at the farming, forestry and small business sector. This mobile fire-fighting pump could be loaded onto the back of a truck and easily extinguish a fire pumping water at high pressure.

The Goscor fire-fighting pump consists of a 500liter UV stabilized polyethylene tank, with a black liner on the inside to restrict algae growth.

A Ruby TR22 piston pump ensures delivery of 22liter per minute at a maximum pressure of 40 bar, with an automatic un-loader valve which regulates the pressure. The Ruby TR22 piston pump is able to run dry without any damage to seals or plungers.

This mobile fire-fighting unit is fired up using a Robin EY20 HP 5 petrol engine, ensuring that sufficient power is available for the piston pump.

A standard feature on these mobile fire-fighting units is the 20 m high-pressure hose on a hose reel. The high-pressure hose is equipped with a pistol type variable spray gun which could be adjusted to spray fog or a stream depending on the intensity of the fire which need to be extinguished.

These mobile fire-fighting units are mounted on anti-vibration rubbers.

“At Goscor we continuously look for high quality equipment to supply to our local market. According to South African law, property owners are criminally liable in a civil matter if fires that started on one property spread to another. The onus therefore lies with property owners to contain fires as soon as possible and this is the main reason why Goscor Engines and Forestry introduced the mobile fire fighting pump for use on farms, forestry departments and small business owners.” Says John Stroebel, Managing Director at Goscor Engines and Forestry.

He goes on to say: “We believe that these mobile fire-fighting units will serve farmers and forestry departments well seeing that there are usually no fire fighting services in remote areas. We believe that these units will definitely assist fire managers to extinguish fires before they spread seeing that they are so versatile, reliable and easy to use. These mobile fire-fighting units are also suitable for small business use for example warehouses and smaller factories.”
