Gabelli's Calls for a Tax on High-Frequency Trading Operations to be Discussed at High-Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2010

Golden Networking's High-Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2010, May 27th, Flatotel Hotel, New York City, to Provide Critical Insights on Upcoming Electronic Trading Regulations

New York, NY, May 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- High-frequency trading doesn’t benefit the financial system and should be taxed to raise money for the Securities and Exchange Commission, said Mario Gabelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gamco Investors Inc., in an interview on Bloomberg Television. "Is the net benefit of having this extra liquidity worth it to the system? The answer is no," Gabelli said. "Should we put a tax on this fast trading to raise revenues for the SEC? The answer is yes, so that investors benefit, not traders."

Mr. Gabelli, who graduated from Columbia Business School and is a long-time proponent of the Value Investing approach, said: "The 'flash traders, the dark pools' and other traders 'are taking over the investment process and at the margin they're becoming too important'." Mr. Gabelli said the best way investors can protect themselves from market turmoil is to examine "the intrinsic value of an enterprise, which doesn’t change minute-by-minute the way commodities change, and look through the daily volatility."
