Combating Childhood Obesity with Good Old Fun and Play

Animal Fitness combines elements of play and exercise to make fitness fun again for kids.

Denver, CO, May 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Animal Fitness is a new Denver based company that sets up weekly mini-adventure race like fitness courses all across the Denver metro area. Many of the courses are on trails and incorporate elements of an obstacle course and scavenger hunt with games and traditional exercises built in.

They are rolling out “courses for cubs” for kids ages 6-12 this June in Highlands Ranch and Littleton.

The growing childhood obesity trend has been a hot news item lately, and it is easy to see why: It has been reported that this is the first generation of kids who won’t outlive their parents. According to Animal Fitness co-founder Scott Jones, this is directly due to the fact that the average child spends almost 40 hours a week, the equivalent to a full time job, watching t.v and playing video games.

The founders of the business are exercise physiologists and fitness specialists and are passionate about reversing those trends.

“We believe that being in the outdoors, laughing and playing are a crucial part of enjoying physical activity. By making workouts more of an adventure, and by incorporating games and challenges, participants are getting a better workout then they would in the gym without even realizing it, “ says co-founder Lauren Jones.
