New York, NY, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Kindness by (aka) voce.
Vocal performance artist (aka) voce will render “Kindness,” a crucial element in moving society forward and the title of a modest, interactive sound art piece that draws from current events, the history of the neighborhood, and what is happening the day of the performance. As part of the free, citywide Make Music New York Festival (MMNY), (aka) voce's lunchtime serenade in the Meatpacking District will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 21st at Porkchop Plaza (9th Avenue and Gansevoort Street).
Kindness is about listening – for the audience and the performer. The music will emerge from the interplay between lush, looped vocals and the rhythms and history that make up the sounds of the city. The sampling of languages in the piece will acknowledge the contribution of immigrants to American society and specifically, to the Meatpacking District of New York City. Part of the presentation will pay tribute to the Highline using two residents’ layered voices as they recount childhood memories of life along the historic rail. In addition to the title piece, Kindness will include a unique “soul-oh” rendition of The Star Spangled Banner with text from the entire poem.
Kindness is part of a social media campaign designed to highlight the power of art and the many opportunities for individuals to have an impact on society. It is part of MMNY's interactive music program, InterActive Music New York (IAMNY). Updates are posted regularly on Twitter and Facebook.
