Salem, OR, June 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Straub Environmental Learning Center’s first Family Nature Retreat Weekend takes place on Saturday, July 10th and Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at Drift Creek Center, Lincoln City, Oregon.

The Family Nature Retreat.

The Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center (FSELC) are excited to announce their first Family Nature Retreat overnight weekend at Drift Creek Nature Center. Drift Creek Nature Center is located at Drift Creek Camp near Lincoln City, Oregon. The nature retreat is open to all families interested in participating in short naturalist hikes and exploration trips. Topics include wildflowers, nocturnal animals, insects, and much more.

Activities start Saturday morning at 10:00 am after check-in. Participants will have many opportunities to take part in the day’s events with three different hour-long field trips to choose from. Lunch and dinner will be provided by Drift Creek Camp.

The goal of the Family Nature Retreat is to provide a family-oriented event that caters to all ages, where children and adults alike can have fun learning about the natural world while exploring the unique ecosystem that exists within the old growth forest surrounding Drift Creek Camp.

This collaboration between FSELC and Drift Creek Camp offers the ideal opportunity for both organizations to promote their mission and goals- partnering with the community to “create an awareness and understanding of our relationship to the environment” (FSELC) and fostering an “appreciation for the important ecological contributions of the coastal rain forest.” (Drift Creek Camp).

Aislinn Adams of Aislinn Adams Design, a FSELC Board member since 2006, will lead the Family Nature Retreat wild flower hikes. Adams is an Irish born graphic designer specializing in illustration. Her business Aislinn Adams Design creates greeting cards and prints inspired by her life long interest in the outdoors, gardening with native plants, and environmental education. For ten years she produced a weekly botanical illustration for the “Digging In” gardening column of the Washington Post.

Adams is a great supporter of the Family Nature Retreat not only because of her love for the outdoors and passion for environmental education but most especially because this family-oriented event provides a much needed opportunity for families to enjoy learning about nature together in a beautiful setting. “Children need to get outdoors to explore the natural world around them: to experience the wonder and awe of walking in Oregon’s old-growth rain forests. What better way to do this than on a Family Nature Retreat?” Adams also adds that she is “continuously inspired by FSELC board and committee members and the host of volunteer environmentalists who share their knowledge generously and give their time willingly at such events.”
