SDI Government Solutions Develops Specialized Tools to Assist with Military XML Conversion Projects

SDI TM Skeleton CreatorSM and TM MagicSM automate conversion processes and reduce deployment time by as much as 60%.

South Plainfield, NJ, June 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- SDI Government Solutions, a leader in the creation and conversion of government technical documentation, has designed two tools to streamline military documentation conversion tasks.

SDI TM Skeleton Creator uses the targeted publication type, directorate, maintenance level and other information to create a valid MIL-STD-40051 XML skeleton, or framework. The application is particularly useful for publications that have lengthy Repair Parts and Special Tools Lists (RPSTLs) since these conversions were extremely labor-intensive prior to using the tool. The SDI TM Skeleton Creator integrates government-furnished information (GFI) tabular RPSTLs automatically, reducing the manual’s conversion time by as much as 60%.

The second tool, TM Magic, is designed for use on military technical documentation projects. Among its features are automatic stock and part number indexing that reduce development time in RPSTL-only documents by 20% and the ability to automatically update source maintenance and recoverability (SMR) codes. Warning summaries and detailed quality assurance reports are also produced by the application.

According to Phil Vallone, SDI Government Solutions Information Technology Manager, these tools, “are a tremendous step forward for the entire military technical documentation community. The same tasks that would have taken a week to complete are now finished in about two days. That leaves the technical writer free to focus all of his or her efforts on the other portions of a technical manual.”

SDI Government Solutions Division President Barbara Reeder praised the SDI TM Skeleton Creator and TM Magic tools for their contributions to the technical documentation community.

“SDI Government Solutions is pleased to have developed tools with these time-saving functionalities for technical writing projects,” she said. “Our team has proven its leadership within the industry by successfully constructing the SDI TM Skeleton Creator and TM Magic tools. We are proud to use these applications to produce superior technical documentation for our Warfighters serving overseas.”
