Skin Care for Men Part 3: Skincare and Shaving

Skincare News Magazine lays out the skin care necessities when it comes to shaving.

Sacramento, CA, December 08, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Skin care can be embraced no matter what you’re doing, especially if you’re a guy who shaves. Skincare-News.com’s latest article, “Skin Care for the Guys Part 3: The Art of Shaving,” takes a skincare smart step-by-step look at one of the most common demands of a man’s day. http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=216

The article targets first time shavers as well as vets and starts off with finding the right razor:

When choosing your razor, take your skin's condition into account. For first-time shavers, play around with single blade razors and see how your skin reacts. Razors with two or more blades definitely get you a closer shave but can tend to be harsher on the skin, so keep that in mind. Electric shavers come with a territory all its own and it's extremely important to read the instruction manual thoroughly. Some guys prefer electric shavers due to its simplicity and it eliminates a lot of the steps that normally comes with shaving with a regular razor. However, some electric razors won't get you a close shave right away and require a few weeks of use for the razor to get accustomed to the structure of your face.

Being in the right environment can make all the difference when it comes to shaving:

Off the bat, dry shaving is a major skincare don't! This will only serve to irritate your skin and dry you out, not to mention it will increase the chances of getting cut. Instead, attempt to shave either while you're in the shower or after you get out. If you're shaving in the morning, make sure you're awake for at least a half hour before putting the razor to your face. When you first wake up your skin tends to be slightly puffy and very sensitive, with the hair being deeper in the follicle. Shaving right after you wake up won't get you as close of a shave so be patient and wait it out until you get in the shower.

Once you’re done shaving, even the aftermath is important when dealing with skincare:

After you think you've gotten the majority of your facial hair, double check your chin, jaw line, the area around your ears/sideburns, and upper lip, nostrils for stragglers. If you're good to go, rinse off your face and any remaining shaving cream/gel with cold water--never use hot or warm water to rinse after a shave, that's just asking for discomfort! Pat your face gently with a towel and if you want, apply a good aftershave or moisturizing lotion to keep your skin from drying out.

According to skin care expert, Bruce DeVon, his series will continue for as long as he can come up with men’s skincare topics. “Shaving is important to men and it’s topic like this one that make me more determined to write articles that will interest men of all ages and backgrounds.”
