An aircraft charter company volunteers the use of their aircraft to help transport participants to the Special Olympics National Games in Lincoln, Nebraska.

La Quinta, CA, July 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Desert Jet, a leading aircraft charter and management company, is proud to announce their participation in Cessna’s Citation Special Olympics Airlift, the largest peacetime airlift in history.

The Airlift is coordinated by the Cessna Aircraft Company, the world’s leading general aviation aircraft company. Participating Citations are donated to transport competitors and their coaches to the Special Olympics National Games, which will take place at the University of Nebraska Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 17 through 24. This year’s effort, which is Cessna’s sixth Airlift, is chaired by Citation owner and pilot Harrison Ford.

Desert Jet, flying under the call sign of Dove 175, will transport several athletes and their coach from Southern California to the event in Lincoln, Nebraska. Desert Jet’s Citation V also participated in the last Special Olympics Airlift, held in July 2006.

“We are pleased to continue our involvement with this very special event” said Denise Wilson, President of Desert Jet and the Captain for the planned flight to Lincoln. “We are looking forward to being a part of this great experience and helping create unforgettable memories for the participants and their families.”

The Airlift is an impressive event, with a Citation jet aircraft touching down at Lincoln Airport every 60 to 90 seconds over a 12-hour period. Trip times are expected to range 90 minutes to three hours. Approximately 2000 athletes will be transported to and from the Special Olympics National Games in more than 170 Citation aircraft.
