Two Funding Wins for Greater Manchester Charity CALL

Manchester, United Kingdom, July 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Greater Manchester cancer support charity CALL is celebrating after being awarded donations from Awards for All and the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund.

CALL offers emotional and practical support for people who have and have had cancer and also those living with the effects of the disease. The charity covers the whole of Greater Manchester and has offices in Wythenshawe, Salford, Stockport, Davyhulme and Beswick.

In a successful start to the year, CALL heard that Awards for ALL had awarded them 10,000 pounds Sterling and Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund 1,345 pounds Sterling.

Jenny Benson, general manager for CALL, commented: “We are so grateful to Awards for All and the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund – without donations like theirs we simply would not be able to continue to offer our services. Coping with the after effects of cancer can be just as hard as coping with the illness itself, and we want the people of Greater Manchester to know that we are here to help them through this difficult time.”

Awards for All is a lottery grants scheme funding small, local community-based projects in the UK, while the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund is a charity formed to support neighbourhood and community projects throughout the local area.

CALL is using the donations to recruit, train and support local volunteers who provide a range of services for people living with cancer in Greater Manchester. The donations will also help to raise awareness of the work CALL does, to make more people affected by cancer aware of the services available to them.

Services are tailored to each individual but include practical help such as shopping, dog walking and taking sufferers to hospital appointments, arranging social activities like coffee mornings and relaxation sessions and talking to people with cancer and their friends and families about their difficulties and concerns. All services are offered free of charge.

The charity was originally set up as a telephone helpline and, although it has since gone on to offer additional services, the helpline continues to operate 365 days per year, from 9am – 4pm weekdays and 7:30pm – 10:30pm on weekends and bank holidays, on 0845 123 23 29.

It is available for anyone who has concerns about cancer or any other life-threatening illnesses.
