"Focused Youth" Aims to Fight Childhood Obesity Through Sports Camps

Established as a charitable program at CDP by sports performance trainer Jermaine Collier, Focused Youth aims to reduce childhood obesity by creating year-round youth strength and conditioning boot camps.

Fayetteville, NC, July 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Congressional District Programs (CDP) announced today the acceptance of a new sponsored program called, “Focused Youth.”

Established as a charitable program at CDP by sports performance trainer Jermaine Collier, Focused Youth aims to reduce childhood obesity by creating year-round youth strength and conditioning boot camps. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past three decades, according to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.

Collier has a degree in sport and exercise science. After five years of working in this field, he realized that too many of his young clients in the Fayetteville community were obese and were at risk of being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. “I see these kids not getting enough exercise and training, especially those in low-income areas. They are at risk of developing serious health problems if we don’t do something,” said Collier.

Collier’s passion to help make a difference in these children’s lives prompted him to start a charitable project at Congressional District Programs. He is committed to address this need and help kids to start making more healthy choices.

Collier’s Focused Youth program will begin by establishing year-round youth strength and conditioning boot camps. The program enlists the help of trainers, who are also degreed in sport and exercise science and kinesiology. They have designed workout camps and youth programs for children in the Fayetteville area. The training camps are located at the John D. Fuller Recreational Complex in Fayetteville, NC. These camps will help fight youth obesity and to provide a safe, fun, and non-discriminating environment where youth can exercise, build relationships, gain nutritional information, and learn strategies to live an overall healthy lifestyle.

Collier also announced that Focused Youth is adding a new basketball training camp that will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays August 2 through August 20. Visit their website at www.focusedyouth.org to register, and for more information. Donations to Focused Youth program are tax-deductible.
