Scandinavian Harmony: RedAntenna Shares Listening Data with GigsWiz

RedAntenna, Odense based direct-to-fan music marketplace service have started a collaboration project together with Helsinki based GigsWiz who are developing analytics tools for the live music industry.

Helsinki, Finland, August 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The aim of the two Scandinavian music industry technology startups' collaboration is to develop a better overview of local demand for music industry professionals. RedAntenna have been developing their proprietary direct-to-fan music marketplace platform since March 2009. GigsWiz are developing a set of analytics tools for the live music industry.

RedAntenna’s core service is their embeddable music player where fans can stream their favorite artists’ music and buy directly from the artists’ web properties. GigsWiz wants to help the artists, their agents and live music promoters by gathering statistical data about the local demand thus enabling them to make better decisions on where to organize live music events and to sell tickets more efficiently.

Collaboration is based on data-sharing of key decision making metrics. RedAntenna gathers their playback data from the embedded music player widgets and shares this listening data with GigsWiz. Now the bands who are registered as GigsWiz users can collect information about the local demand gathered from the GigsWiz applications and widgets and compare and validate this data with the playback information gathered from their RedAntenna music player. GigsWiz provides an easy-to-use analytical view of this combined data by displaying all the metrics overlayed on a map describing the geographical demand. Metrics can also be viewed on a chart which describes the demand over time.

“We are very excited about our cooperation with RedAntenna and the added value it gives to our customers. We are looking very much forward to collaborating in the same way with other music companies as well,” says Kai Lemmetty, responsible for the product development at GigsWiz.

“The music industry is facing difficult times with decreasing music sales which devalues the old-school method of measuring the success of musical ventures on chart placement. In reality there’s plenty of secondary metrics and market data such as the one we give to our customers about their sales and fan activity but the problem is that all of this information from social services and various other direct-to-fan tools is so fragmented that it’s hard to use as a primary decision making metric,” says Lisbeth Chawes, CEO of RedAntenna.

"Now when touring is more important than ever, and smaller labels or self released bands actually can compete more or less with the big dragons of the business, building a solid and strong fan base is of high importance. Red Antenna allows fans to feel like they are part of the band's success and also allows them to earn money from helping their favourite band reach higher. This creates a strong sense of togetherness between the band and the fans which is hard to find somewhere else," says Björn Rallare, manager of Märvel.

“We are very interested to learn more about our fans and because of that the GigsWiz tools have been very valuable to us since the beginning of their beta program. Now that we can see both our gig demands from GigsWiz and the actual sales data from RedAntenna in a single interface it’s very easy for us to make future touring decisions,” explains Lasse Arola from The B And The Band.

Helsinki‐based music technology start-up GigsWiz launched a beta version of its analytics platform for the live music industry in June 2010. The free service helps bands, their agents and local promoters make better informed decisions on where bands should arrange concerts and tours. The GigsWiz platform enables bands and artists and their management to gather fan requests through the bands’ and artists’ web properties. GigsWiz then visualizes this data in a business-focused and easy-to-use format. GigsWiz is looking to combine this offering with real‐time geolocation specific consumption data from online music services. For the first time bands, agents and promoters have clear statistics on the expected demand for gigs. Bands can serve their fans better and improve their revenue by optimizing gigs and tours to the right cities and venues. http://www.gigswiz.com

RedAntenna changes the way digital media is discovered, bought and sold today. We let the music spread freely and legally through a network of thousands of “local” online musicshops, while we make sure that the music publishers are paid for their hard and passionate work. RedAntenna is based in Denmark. http://www.redantenna.com

MÄRVEL consists of the three super heroes Vocalo, Animalizer and The Ambassador. From their headquarters, located in Brooklyn, NYC, they struggle hard to put an end to organized crime and the evil organization SACO led by Dr Spats. On stage though they appear in the shape of the King, the Vicar and the Aviator. And on rare special occasions as Luigi, Mario and the Princess. Behind this power trio we find three young guys from Linköping, Sweden; John Steen, Ulrik Bostedt and Tony Samuelsson who founded the band Märvel during their high school exchange year in Colorado, USA, 2002. http://www.myspace.com/marveltheband#ixzz0vdbwwqqy
