Oceanside, CA, August 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- With school back in session, youngsters are hitting the books once again. But, it’s not too late for them – and their parents -- to brush up on their bicycle safety skills as well.

Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast, a fun, family-oriented event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, has teamed up with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC) to encourage people of all ages to enjoy the benefits of cycling. To that end, the SDCBC is holding regular Traffic 101 classes in Oceanside. To register for any upcoming class, please visit: www.sdcbc.org/classes.htm

“We are very excited about Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast and hope it will be a showcase for the great things that can happen with cycling in Oceanside,” said Kathy Keehan, Executive Director of SDCBC.

Bike the Coast, produced by Event Media, Inc., has partnerships with the Oceanside Bicycle Committee, Main Street Oceanside and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. These groups, along with the Oceanside Visitors Bureau, are bringing together the cycling and business communities in Oceanside to promote bicycling and offer a fun festival at the Oceanside Pier with food, drink, music and fun.

“We would like to see Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast as Oceanside’s annual signature event to get more people on bikes in our community,” said Howard La Grange, Co-Chairman of the Oceanside Bicycle Committee. “The League of American Bicyclists has recognized Oceanside is a ‘Bronze Level Bicycling City.’ Promoting events that bring more people of all ages to cycling is our goal.”

In conjunction with the start and finish of the bicycling event at the Oceanside Pier, the Taste the Coast exposition will feature attractions and activities for both riders and spectators. Main Street Oceanside (MSO), producers of the very popular weekly Farmers and Sunset Markets, will provide food and music at the Taste the Coast. Kim Heim, Director of MSO (www.msoceanside.com), said that Taste the Coast offers “A chance to experience the food and fun that Oceanside has to offer. We are looking forward to a great event.”
