Construction Focus for Local College

Derby, United Kingdom, August 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Enrolment has now started at Derby College @ Ilkeston & Heanor which is expanding the range of construction courses at its site in Field Road, Ilkeston, following its merger with Derby College.

This year courses already available for school leavers and apprentices in brickwork, electrical installation and joinery, have been expanded to include painting and decorating and plastering – all based at the purpose-built technology centre on the campus which used to be part of South East Derbyshire College.

Head of Derby College @Ilkeston & Heanor Maureen Finch explained: “The College here has always had a fantastic reputation for construction training – both for school leavers and to support apprentices who combine working with local businesses with training for nationally-recognised qualifications.

“It makes perfect sense that the purpose-built technology centre becomes a base for Derby College’s entire range of construction skills to meet the demand from businesses.

“Economic research backs up our own discussions with local businesses as it reveals that the construction industry in this area has continued to thrive, despite the recession, with smaller businesses in particular capitalising on the growing marketing for house renovations and extensions which people are opting for rather than moving.

“The demand for trained and qualified construction professionals can only increase further as the economy picks up and the wider range of courses that we will now provide will help to support the growth in the local construction industry.”
