The event will recognize 15 children for staying out of trouble and living their lives free of gangs and drugs despite the difficulties of being raised amidst trying conditions. One child will be honored with the William Bunn Scholarship, created to recognize an 8-year-old who died from pediatric cancer after being made an honorary police officer in Raleigh. Gov. Bev Perdue, the Chief of Police, Senators, judges, parents and teachers are expected to attend the event.
