Eden Autism Services Breaks Ground for New School

Eden Autism Services will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on September 23, 2010 at 10:00 at 2 Merwick Road, Princeton, NJ (In the Princeton Forrestal Village) for it's new uniquely designed school for children with autism.

Princeton, NJ, September 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In 1975, Eden Autism Services broke ground in the field of autism by being among the first in the nation to serve the needs of children with autism and their families. 35 years later, Eden continues to break ground in treating both children and adults with autism; and on September 23, 2010 at 10:00 am, Eden Autism Services will literally break ground to begin the construction of its uniquely designed autism school located at 2 Merwick Road, Princeton, NJ in the Princeton Forrestal Village. The new school will be a model of service delivery and has been designed by Eden teachers who have utilized three decades of knowledge and best practices in teaching individuals with autism to reach their full potential.

KSS Architects and V.J. Scozzari and Sons, Inc. have worked closely with Eden staff to design a building which will include a convenience store and office training room to be used to foster job preparation skills, a commercial kitchen for use with Eden’s new culinary arts program, two-story gymnasium, a cafeteria; and of course classrooms, administrative offices and Wawa House, one of the nation’s first early intervention programs funded by Wawa Inc.

The new school project is being funded in part by Eden’s Nurturing Today, Embracing Tomorrow capital campaign. $4 million of the campaign’s $7 million goal is to be used towards Eden’s new school. The remainder is to be used to create an endowment to cover the shortfall in government funding for Eden’s adult services.

“We are thrilled to begin construction on our new school building,” says Dr. Tom McCool, president & CEO of Eden Autism Services. “This has been a long-time coming and with our new building we will have the ability to enhance our already outstanding teaching program and increase our capacity to serve more children with autism. I would also like to thank those in the community who have already shown their support and invite others to help us realize our dream of an exceptional learning environment for our students.”
