Thousand Oaks, CA, October 02, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Rachel Shur, who calls herself a Cancer Survivor Extraordinaire, battled final stage leukemia head on in 2006 and succeeded. It didn't stop her when the cancer crept back nearly 9 months later. Shur believes in the sayings that "Attitude is everything." and "There's always hope." Because she faced the disease twice and beat it. She's now been in remission for 2 1/2 years since her autologus stem cell transplant and she's doing the things that she loves most: helping other cancer survivors & their families. "If I had the option to go back in time and never have cancer, I wouldn't do it! Because it's brought me so many wonderful people & even better life experiences," says Shur. She continues to say "This cancer has allowed me to help people, to come out of my shell and share my story, to provide inspiration & support to others facing the disease as I did nearly 4 years ago." Shur started a non-profit (pending status) in October 2009 called United Cancer Advocacy Action Network or UCAAN. She calls UCAAN "The Patient's Resource Organization" and she not only provides resources to these survivors & their families, but she also provides them with a piece of jewelry she makes herself or a little trinket to bring them some support and hope. "I sell this jewelry to raise money for UCAAN, but it seems that I give more away to survivors, than I sell. The way I look at it is that it provides so much to the people I give them to, and it's worth the smile on their faces or the tears of joy in their eyes."
Shur and UCAAN are having their 2nd Annual Date Auction again this year, but there's a twist: The UCAAN Ultimate Experience includes a silent auction filled with Autographed Celebrity items including: A Rolling Stones Guitar, a "Twillight" cast photo, A Star Trek Cast photo, an Eagles drum head and original sheet music of "Hotel California," a Michael Jackson Thriller record album and more. The auction also includes many smaller auction items and baskets, a date auction for men & women and even a special concert at the end of the evening. All this and more is happening at The Canyon in Agoura Hills on Friday October 15th, 2010 at 7pm sharp! Tickets Must be purchased prior to the event through UCAAN and are only $35.
