RE/MAX Broker/Owner Gary Jacklin and Tribute Donate Musical Skills to Benefit Non-Profits in West Suburbs

Elgin, IL, October 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Gary Jacklin has carved out a successful career in real estate. He’s sold homes since 1987, in markets both good and bad, and is now the broker/owner of RE/MAX Action in Lisle, Ill., one of the most successful offices in the RE/MAX Northern Illinois network.

But real estate isn’t Jacklin’s only passion. He’s also a skilled musician, and along with the fellow members of his band, Tribute, is helping cash-strapped non-profit agencies in these difficult economic times.

Jacklin and his band mates pitch in by playing classic rock and country rock favorites at fund-raising events across Chicago’s Western suburbs. The band accepts no fees at many of these events, and plays merely to help local churches, non-profit organizations and charities raise the revenue they need to stay viable today.

In late September, Tribute was one of the headliners at the annual Oktoberfest event at St. Joan of Arc Church in Lisle. Tribute is slated to play at a benefit for St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Woodridge, Ill., early next year. The band has also performed at no charge for local not-for-profits such as the Diveheart Foundation of Downers Grove, which helps disabled children and adults enjoy richer lives.

“All of us were professional musicians who went on to do other things but love to perform and welcome the opportunity to give something back to our communities,” said Jacklin, a resident of Downers Grove.

Jacklin plays guitar and fiddle for Tribute, which was formed in 2002. He is joined by band mates Allan Roberts of Lockport, who handles keyboards; Bob Lytle of Downers Grove, Tribute’s bass player; and Pat Harbauer of Lisle, who takes on the drum and percussion work. All four share the vocal work.

All the members of Tribute have deep musical roots. Roberts has a strong background in jazz and toured with such well-known musical names as Gladys Knight, Jerry Butler and Sonny Stitt. Lytle has been a performer and producer in the Chicago music scene for many years, while Harbauer toured with an R&B band after finishing college.

For his part, Jacklin began playing professionally in 1975. During the next 12 years, he served as a member of several popular groups in the Chicago area, including Big John Howell and the Born to Boogie Band. In 1987, he shifted his focus, moving to a career in real estate.

“I could see that music wasn’t going to be a viable full-time occupation for me going forward,” said Jacklin. “Real estate intrigued me, and once I got into it professionally, I really enjoyed it.”

After several years as a real estate agent, Jacklin joined RE/MAX Acton in Lisle in 1993, and was able to acquire the office in 1996. Under Jacklin’s leadership, RE/MAX Action has grown steadily and now has more than 80 agents.

But even as his real estate career blossomed, Jacklin never lost his passion for music.

“Playing is rewarding on a number of levels,” said Jacklin. “We have so much fun performing, and it’s great to help local churches or other community institutions. Most of all, it lets each of us contribute to our community, making it a better place to live with stronger connections and more resources for those who need help.”

Of course, Jacklin is far from the only member of the RE/MAX Northern Illinois network who gives back to his community. RE/MAX agents and brokers regularly contribute to fund-raising drives, volunteer at food banks and work with homeless shelters.

RE/MAX Northern Illinois itself is a partner in the Children’s Miracle Network, a network that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals across the country. Most of the funds that RE/MAX offices raise go to support Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. This spring, RE/MAX Northern Illinois received an award from Children’s Memorial Hospital for its fund-raising efforts.

RE/MAX is the leader in northern Illinois real estate sales. It has been number one in the metropolitan Chicago real estate market since 1989, closing more than $6 billion in sales last year.

The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network consists of 2,500 associates and 120 individually owned and operated RE/MAX offices that provide a full range of brokerage services throughout the northern one-third of Illinois. Its www.illinoisproperty.com and www.remax.com websites are leaders in consumer visits among real estate brokerage brands. The northern Illinois network is part of RE/MAX LLC, a global real estate organization with nearly 100,000 sales associates in 80 nations.
