Annual Spa Event to Raise Awareness and Support for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer

Reston, VA, October 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Tigerlily Foundation launches Spa for A Cause © to raise awareness and funds to support young women and breast cancer. In the month of October, participating spas will come together for in this event, to support a cause that affects young women everywhere.

For an entire month, partner spas, including Catherine’s Skin Care and Day Spa, Christol Salon and Spa, Ibiza Day Spa and Paris Alexander Day Spa, will donate a portion of each massage to Tigerlily Foundation. Tigerlily Foundation’s programs assist young women around the world living with breast cancer with a variety of support services starting at diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. Services include education, a chemotherapy buddy program, buddy bag program, financial assistance, meals, support to young women living with Stage 4 breast cancer and more. About the Tigerlily Foundation and Founder Maimah Karmo
Tigerlily Foundation’s mission is to educate, advocate for, empower and provide hands-on support to young women affected by breast cancer. Funds go towards educating women and girls, women in treatment who need financial assistance, meals, buddies, education and empowerment. Founder Maimah Karmo, is a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed at 32. Determined to provide resources to other young women, Karmo founded the Tigerlily Foundation in 2006, and gave it the name of a flower that represents beauty, strength and transformation. She has become an author and activist for her cause and appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” as well as other TV shows.

According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is the leading cause of death in American women ages 15-54. More than 250,000 women age 40 and under in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lives, and more than 11,000 women will be diagnosed next year. Younger women often have more aggressive breast cancers and higher mortality rates.
