)-- Dana Jennings, CEO of The NC Center for Women in Public Service (NCCWPS), a nonpartisan organization that prepares women to seek and serve in elected and appointed offices statewide, has announced that the organization will host a Women on Board workshop in November for women interested in appointments to boards and commissions at the municipal, county and statewide levels.
The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the UNC-Charlotte Campus Bonnie E. Cone Center, located at 9201 University City Blvd. in Charlotte. For this workshop, NCCWPS has partnered with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Women’s Summit, a data driven, community-based volunteer organization that serves as a catalyst to improve the lives of women and girls, and thereby the whole community, in Charlotte Mecklenburg through raising awareness, education, engaging the community, collaborating with other organizations and serving as a key informational resource. - Workshop objectives will include an overview of boards and commissions and how they operate; the opportunity to interact with local appointed and elected officials and to learn about their experiences; strategies to secure public service positions; hands-on research to identify actual municipal, county and state level opportunities; an overview of the status of NC women in various public service roles; and a discussion focused on the barriers and challenges that impact women.
