What many people may not be aware of is that Elizabeth Arden wasn’t American born:

Canada wasn't big enough to hold Elizabeth Arden, who was born as Florence Nightingale Graham, on December 31, 1878. Moving to New York to work as a helper in a cosmetic shop, Elizabeth Arden also traveled to France where she learned the art of facial massages and various beauty techniques, according to Wikipedia.org.

Elizabeth Arden was truly a woman who wanted others to embody their beauty:

With her newfound knowledge, she returned to the United States on a mission: to teach American women how to become beautiful. After a partnership in a beauty salon fell apart, Florence Nightingale Graham changed her name to Elizabeth Arden, and opened her own beauty salon on Fifth Avenue in New York. The one-woman wonder began to formulate, manufacture and sell her brand of cosmetic products. Elizabeth Arden was ready for business.

With her innovative business sense, Elizabeth Arden made her mark:

Elizabeth Arden was a businesswoman who was way ahead of her time. Using modern mass marketing techniques, Arden was able to bring her special line of skin care and beauty products to the general public. Once popularity set in, she was also able to open and operate a chain of beauty salons and spas.

According to skin care expert, Danielle Robinson, it was time for readers to understand the figures they have to thank. “If it weren’t for the efforts of women like Elizabeth Arden, the beauty and skincare industry wouldn’t be as popular as it is. I knew that it was time to give credit where credit was due.”
