Los Angeles Area Regional Red Cross "Heroes Breakfast" a Big Success

Santa Monica, CA, December 04, 2010 --( PeakPRgroup are proud to announce that The Los Angeles Area Regional Red Cross First Annual "Heroes Breakfast" was a big success. The fundraiser was held Wednesday morning, Nov. 17 at the California Club, 538 South Flower Street in downtown Los Angeles and raised over $85,000. 220 guests attended the prestigious event.

The fundraiser honored Los Angeles area businesses who have shown outstanding leadership in their community by taking an active role in disaster preparedness. The companies and their chief executives are “Heroes” who have helped to make Los Angeles a safer and better prepared community in the event of disaster.

The Heroes are former Los Angeles Mayor and business leader Richard Riordan, KABC (7) and Southern California Edison.

The "Heroes Breakfast" was hosted by the Board(s) of Directors and Chapter Executive Officers of the various Los Angeles area regional Red Cross Chapters which includes the American Red Cross of Los Angeles, Arcadia, Claremont, Glendale-Crescenta Valley, Santa Monica and the San Gabriel Valley.

Richard Riordan was honored as the 2010 Community Hero. As the Mayor of Los Angeles, during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake Mayor Riordan’s leadership was critical in assuring rapid recovery from the devastation caused by the temblor. Dr. Lucy Jones, chief scientist, United States Geographical Survey, was the guest speaker discussing Chilean Earthquake recovery efforts and Ric Romero, reporter and consumer specialist, ABC7 Eyewitness News acted as emcee for the breakfast.

The "Heroes Breakfast" attracted influential business leaders, decision makers, celebrities, public safety officials and disaster professionals. Support of the “Heroes Breakfast” plays a vital role in ensuring that the Los Angeles area chapters of the American Red Cross will have the financial resources to prepare for and respond to disasters locally, nationally, and internationally.

Key sponsors are Southern California Edison and the Walt Disney Company. Additional sponsors include DirecTV, Herbalife Ltd., Hyde Family Foundation, Northrop Grumman, Target and Wells Fargo.

Since the American Red Cross is privately funded and receives no government funding, the ability to provide services to those in need is directly dependent on the financial generosity of the public. Santa Monica PR firm peakPRgroup are proud to have helped with the media coverage this amazing event.
