Mr. Bob Quinlan, Counselor and Author, Busted the Myth of Unconditional Love in Relationships with Donna Marie Thompson, PhD - the CEO of Goals in Action, LLC

Washington, DC, December 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As the special guest on Donna Marie Thompson's Bouncing Back Now show on the Real Coaching Radio TV Network, Mr. Bob Quinlan, a counselor, businessman, and spouse blasted the concepts of unconditional love and complacency in romantic relationships. Quinlan’s main message is that developing a deep sense of self-awareness is important to managing all relationships – be they romantic or otherwise.

The Source
In his new book: “Earn it: Empower Yourself for Love” Quinlan asserts that: “most of us are not paying proper attention to the most important relationship in our lives. If you continue, your relationship runs a high risk of failure. But it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Quinlan suggests that people could “use the success principles of business such as customer care and satisfaction surveys in their romantic relationships. How -- by talking to your love: asking what they need and asking how you are doing; and then by working on it together. The best relationships are true joint ventures.”

What are Your Priorities?
Quinlan continued providing relationship advice including to: “make your relationship priority number one in your life. With our busy schedules, work commitments, travel, deadlines, 24-hour connectivity, kids, activities, and other demands, it is unfortunately rather common to lose focus of our partner’s needs. We drift apart and then our differences become irreconcilable. This is completely avoidable.”

Quinlan relayed that “We must constantly earn the love of our partner – it is not an entitlement. You must earn this love at the beginning and you must continue to earn it over time. By continuing to think of your partner and their happiness, you can grow as a couple. Who even wants to contemplate starting over in a new relationship? Keep the one you have. Work on it. Make it better. Make it last. If you’ve been through a gut-wrenching and painful divorce you will surely want to avoid another one at all costs, believe me.”

Dr. Thompson added that “We can each grow as individuals at the same time we are supporting the growth of the couple. Why not make it a personal development goal to enhance your self-awareness and to improve communications in your relationship? It will pay big dividends for you and your happiness.”

Quinlan described the assessment featured in his book: “It can be used in new relationships and old relationships. The assessment can lend perspective into what is working and what is not working in you and in your relationship. Ideally, you can work on it together. If you are currently experiencing relationship problems, an important starting point is you. Even if your love is not on board yet, you can begin. Because the only behavior that you actually can shift is yours, why not start there? Only after you have accepted your roles and behaviors in your relationship issues is it recommended to approach your partner if they are reluctant. It is a great start and it will open new horizons of thinking for you about your relationship.”
