Several matured vintage wines were included in the line-up for this wine tasting session held in the pool garden area of Manila’s exclusive Wack Wack Golf Club after the DMG tournament held on 7th January, 2011. The majority of the golfers were wine drinkers already but have not been exposed to fine vintage wines of 20 to 40 years old. Some participants were very tentative, timid even, and asked a lot of questions about the appreciation of older vintage wines. Some wondered if these wines were drinkable.

Guests of the events praised the 1973 Chateauneuf-du-Pape and called it the wine of the evening. Many also liked the 1978 Moulin-a-Vent which surprised everybody that a Beaujolais can be so rich and young even at the age of 32. Among the whites, the participants really liked the 2000 Chardonnay of Chile’s Casa Lapastolle.

Established in 2002, Yats Wine Cellars is a wholly-owned business unit of Hong Kong-based Yats International which owns and operates resorts, wine shops, wine bars and fine-dining restaurant properties in Clark Freeport in The Philippines.

The wine selection of Yats Wine Cellars is revered not only for the big names, the first growths, grand cru and cult labels of Napa Valley, but really for the connoisseurs’ favorites, the old vintages of lesser known producers that are not seen in ordinary wine shops in Hong Kong or other cities in Asia. As wine lovers become more matured, their palates are less impressed by big and rich wines. They start to demand for wine that is more elegant and stylish, something that they can really enjoy not only with more delicate cuisines but even just to drink and enjoy on its own.

The wines of Yats Wine Cellars are designed for the matured wine lovers looking for wines that are interesting, not necessarily impressive, and at a fair price that is usually below those of a comparable big names, and from a matured vintage from 20 years or older. There are over 2000 selections of wine at Yats that fit that description.
