Eaton Corporation Hosts the Bayer MaterialScience LLC Inaugural EcoCommercial Building Network workshop at Its LEED-certified Electrical Headquarters

Pittsburgh, PA, January 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Eaton Corporation recently hosted approximately 25 participants of Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s North American (NA) EcoCommercial Building (ECB) Network at its LEED Gold-certified Electrical headquarters in Moon Township, Pa.

Executives from ECB Program member and affiliate organizations gathered in the fourth quarter for a two-day workshop designed to advance the collaborative process that is the foundation of the ECB Program’s novel approach to integrated sustainable construction. Eaton, a member of the ECB NA network, was a logical choice to host part of the workshop, according to Paul Platte, head, EcoCommercial Building Program, NA, Bayer MaterialScience LLC.

“Eaton’s state-of-the-art green facility was a fitting and inspirational setting for the second day of our workshop,” said Platte. “It really set an example of what the network is about … bringing industry leaders together to work collaboratively on maximizing sustainability and energy conservation in commercial and government structures. This is something that can’t easily be accomplished in the traditional, siloed approach to building design and construction.”

Eaton Corporation, a diversified power management company, develops customer solutions that drive sustainable growth around the globe, including efficiently using and conserving global resources, developing energy efficient products, reducing emissions, protecting the environment and volunteering time to help build stronger communities.

Eaton builds a culture of responsibility that encourages every employee to ask questions that lead to more sustainable processes and practices, and help the company support a sustainable future.

“Involvement in the ECB Network gives us the opportunity to collaborate with similar-minded companies to create awareness with end users, developers, architects and engineers about the importance of sustainable and eco-friendly products and services,” explained Dr. Ken Uhlman, PE, global client director, Eaton Corporation. “We’re pleased we were not only able to participate in the workshop, but also to demonstrate that when it comes to sustainability, Eaton really ‘walks the walk.’”

Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s ECB NA program, launched April 26, 2010, advocates an integrated, collaborative approach to sustainable building design and technologies. Network member organizations provide products aligned with seven building solution areas (Building Envelope Insulation; Daylighting; Illumination; Indoor Environmental Quality; Sustainable Energy; Intelligent Building; and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) that help to increase sustainability and reduce energy costs. The network’s members and alliances function independently to provide products and services for sustainable building projects, which may or may not involve Bayer MaterialScience products.

Members of the ECB NA Network include industrial adhesives and sealants manufacturer, Bostik; professional services firm, Deloitte LLP; electrical solutions leader, Eaton Corporation; window manufacturer, Graham Architectural Products; architectural design firm, IDC Architects; thermal-insulated panel manufacturer, Kingspan; and engineering services provider, Bayer Technology Services. Bayer MaterialScience advanced material solutions include customized polyurethane spray foam and polyiso board insulation as well as polycarbonate sheet from Sheffield Plastics. Finally, the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics of Carnegie Mellon University provides a strong alliance focused on state-of-the-art sustainability practices.

Bayer MaterialScience LLC is one of the leading producers of polymers and high-performance plastics in North America and is part of the global Bayer MaterialScience business with approximately 14,300 employees at 30 production sites around the world and 2009 sales of 7.5 billion euros.
