PEPID Announces Renewal of Provincial Contract in Québec

Five-year agreement continues access to PEPID Online to every hospital in Québec.

Quebec, Canada, January 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- PEPID, the leading developer of clinical decision-support information and technology for healthcare professionals, announced today that the Association des spécialistes en médecine d’urgence du Québec (ASMUQ) and the Québec Ministry of Health will license PEPID Online for five years. This agreement makes PEPID the exclusive point of care provider of clinical and drug information in Québec for a decade.

“Our partnership with ASMUQ, supported by the Quebec Ministry of Health, furthers our commitment to deliver the information healthcare professionals need to provide the highest level of patient care,” says PEPID President, John Wagner. “We’ve been in every emergency room in Québec for the past five years, and I look forward to working together for the next five years.”

The contract gives all 107 emergency departments in Québec unlimited access to PEPID’s Emergency Physician Suite (ED), accessible online via any computer or workstation. Currently, healthcare professionals in Québec access PEPID’s online resources more than one million times per month.

“PEPID has become an indispensable tool and resource for our emergency room staff over the last five years. We are proud to support the use of PEPID, and to have their excellent point of care resources in our facilities,” says Dr. Daniel LeFrançois, director at the Ministry of Health.

According to Dr. Francois Dufresne, ASMUQ President, it’s the quality and completeness of the clinical and drug information that has made PEPID so popular among Quebec’s 2,300 emergency physicians. “We want to provide our healthcare professionals with the best clinical decision support available; PEPID’s comprehensive drug information and emergency medicine reference is unmatched.”

In 2005, the Quebec’s association of emergency physicians and the Ministry of Health decided to employ a system-wide clinical decision support system after the Canadian Adverse Events Study[1] was published, reporting 23,750 preventable deaths in Canadian hospitals. The study confirmed the need for changes that were already advocated by the two groups. After extensive research, they chose to deploy PEPID in every emergency department.

“Since employing PEPID five years ago, reports from the field indicate an increase in the quality of care provided, the reduction of medical errors, and the ability to see more patients within the time critical window,” says Dr. Francois Paquet, medical counsel at the Emergency Care Division of the Quebec Ministry of Health. “PEPID has far exceeded our expectations, which is why we’ve decided to continue access for our healthcare professionals for another five years.”
