QuiltTimeTravel – Extraordinary Study Tour, Exploring the Historical Paths of the U.S. State of Virginia

Munich, Germany, January 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In the autumn of 2010 and taking the motto “QuiltTimeTravel,” a group of enthusiastic German and Swiss quilters undertook an extraordinary journey to explore the historically and culturally important U.S. state of Virginia.

Under the expert guidance of Jutta Hufnagel, Managing Director of Quilt around the World, and Carola Helm, passionate quilter and quilt tour guide, the group started a 16 day journey through American history, illustrated by traditional patchwork and quilt arts & crafts.

“Since the arrival of the early settlers in the 17th century quilting has been a tradition in North America and a part of its cultural history,” explained Jutta, who had already organized a quilt journey with Carola back in 2008 with the theme 'Amish & Quilts & Culture exploring the major Amish settlements in the U.S.' “Deep insight into regional quilting traditions and energizing cultural exchange are the objectives of our individually planned study tours.”

The experienced North America travel specialist Canusa Touristik supported Jutta and Carola, as in 2008, with the organization and execution of QuiltTimeTravel 2010.

Among the highlights of this year’s journey were a visit to the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, a day trip to Washington, D.C., a meeting with the Baltimore Heritage Quilters and two days at the world’s largest International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.

The comprehensive QuiltTimeTravel 2010 report is available at Quilt around the World, the bilingual online magazine. (www.quilt-around-the-world.com/en/content/summary-quiltzeitreise-trip-back-quilt-history).

Further quilt journeys across Europe and North America are already being planned. Anyone interested in future travel projects can register free of charge at Quilt around the World.
