San Francisco, CA, January 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Vetted Word, a performance art and spoken word event in San Francisco since 2009 occurring on the first Wednesday of each month, announces an exciting change of direction. This curated monthly showcase, with performers hand-picked to craft an engaging, dynamic performance, has refocused its mission in order to better serve deeper needs in San Francisco.

VW’s creator and host Olga Rosales states, “As we grew in 2010, we found ourselves getting larger and cultivating a strong following, but without a clear purpose or direction. While performers always create work around important issues, we began to examine what a clearer focus would bring.”

The change is twofold, with changes both in programming as well as in format. For the former, the show’s content now focuses on something decidedly big: spirituality, God, the Universe, etc. This new addition will not have a religious feel or orientation, but rather a focus on life's big questions. Rosales continues: “We want to create a space where people of all religions and spiritual orientations – agnosticism included – can come together and delve into these big topics on stage. We’re asking performers to bring their struggles, feelings and explorations together with respect and civility.” All viewpoints are welcome, as long as they do not condemn or express hate toward another perspective or belief. In addition, the audience is now invited to participate via a discussion panel at the end of each showcase.

In terms of format, the change is just as dramatic. Two months out of every three, the general public is invited to a residence in the Mission District for “Living Room Liberation,” a donation-based house show with free food and libations. Plus, before each show, an hour-long workshop by Jonathan Bender, founder of WholeSpeak (http://www.wholespeak.com) and Artistic Director of The Illuminated Theater, brings professional skills to the community. All are welcome to “Juicy Wordplay,” a dynamic exploration of the spoken voice and performance styles.

In addition, once a quarter, The Vetted Word Showcase returns to its long-time home at Viracocha for a larger show. The next big showcase, February 2nd, features the incredible poetic talents of Sam Sax. The night’s panel discussion topic is: “Acceptance or Rejection?” around artists’ constant issue of dealing with grants and performance/exhibition submissions.
