Yuri's Night Announces Start of 2011 Tribute Video Contest

Washington, DC, February 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Yuri's Night, the World Space Party, announced this evening on Spacevidcast Live the official opening of a global competition to create videos that best engage the public in celebrating the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight and embody the spirit of Yuri's Night. The top submission will receive a $500 cash prize, sponsored by OpenLuna.org.

"I'm very excited to see what fantastic entries our Yuri's Night followers will create with our video podcast series and other resources," said Yuri's Night Executive Director Ryan Kobrick. "The space community is known for their ability to be staggeringly creative, and this video contest is an excellent way to get artists and editors involved in space."

The Yuri's Night 2011 Video Contest asks prospective entrants to create videos using freely-provided Yuri's Night materials and any other available open-source content. Resource materials include recent Yuri's Night interviews with Bill Nye, TV personality and Executive Director of the Planetary Society, European Space Agency Director Jean-Jacques Dordain, and other space personalities, along with Yuri's Night logos, footage from past events, and the 2010 Global Podcast series.

Yuri's Night, the World Space Party, is an organization dedicated to commemorating humanity's past in space and celebrating its future via celebrations and events held around the world each April. Yuri's Night 2011, to be held on April 12th, commemorates the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight.
