Re:locate Awards 2010/11: Celebrity Guest Speaker Revealed

Kent, United Kingdom, February 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- As the countdown to the presentation of the Re:locate Awards 2010/11 continues, the identity of the celebrity guest speaker for this year’s Gala Awards Dinner, to be held on Thursday 12 May 2011, has now been unveiled.

Launched in 2007 by Re:locate, the UK’s leading magazine for HR professionals, global managers and relocation specialists, the ten Re:locate Awards celebrate success, good practice and innovation in the increasingly high-profile and complex field of relocation. The annual Gala Awards Dinner, now an established highlight of the relocation calendar, has attracted celebrity after-dinner speakers of international calibre, including travel writer and broadcaster Simon Calder and broadcaster, journalist and author Libby Purves.

It has just been announced that the guest speaker for this year’s Gala Awards Dinner will be Floella Benjamin, distinguished broadcaster, actress, writer, cultural ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and international children’s campaigner.

As a broadcaster and actor, Floella Benjamin has been in the public eye for over 35 years. She has appeared on stage, in films and on television, and is remembered with affection by millions for her role as presenter of BBC television’s long-running Playaway and Play School series. In recent years, she has carved out a distinguished career in public service and charity work.

Among other honours, Floella Benjamin has been awarded the OBE for services to broadcasting and a BAFTA Special Lifetime Award for her services to children's television. She is chancellor of the University of Exeter, and a deputy lieutenant of Greater London. In June 2010, she took her seat as a Liberal Democrat peer in the House of Lords, with the title Baroness Benjamin of Beckenham.

“I have had the pleasure of hearing Baroness Benjamin on a previous occasion,” says Fiona Murchie, Re:locate’s managing editor. “She is an inspiring, energising and very entertaining speaker, who reflects the Re:locate Awards’ ethos and international nature perfectly, and we are thrilled that she has agreed to host this year’s awards.”

Ms Murchie continues, “I’d just like to remind people that the deadline for receipt of entries is Friday 18 February 2011, so it’s not too late to enter! As well as recognising those in HR roles, the Re:locate Awards pay tribute to the expertise of the wealth of service providers, from relocation management companies to financial and property professionals, who, together, make up this diverse industry. With a choice of categories for HR and service providers, and three brand new awards for 2010/11 – Green Achievement, Excellence in Employee & Family Support, and Best International Destination Services Provider – there truly is something for everyone.

“Previous winners have included PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Jones Lang LaSalle, NATS, GlaxoSmithKline, Cartus, Pricoa Relocation and Robinsons International Removals, so you’ll be in good company!”
