Luth Research Reports Love is the Main Reason Men Gift Valentine’s Day Flowers

According to a recent market research study, most men who choose to send flowers do so solely to express their love.

San Diego, CA, February 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Gifting flowers continues to be one of the most popular ways in which men express their love on Valentine’s Day. And, in turn, it’s the classic gift that women consistently expect and love to receive on Valentine’s Day.

According to a Luth Research study conducted in early January 2011 on behalf of ProFlowers®, 91% of men who give flowers to their significant other on Valentine’s Day do so, in most cases, simply to show their love to that special someone in their lives.

The study, conducted among 501 adult men from Luth’s panel, SurveySavvy™, revealed that more than 75% of men have given flowers for Valentine’s Day in the past two years. Of those men giving flowers to their significant other, nine in ten primarily intend to express their love (91%) and 26% said they give flowers to avoid disappointing their significant other. Sixteen percent gift flowers to avoid being in the doghouse.

Other findings from the study reveal that two-thirds of men purchasing flowers for Valentine’s Day will send them to their significant others; the remainder will send flowers to their mother. During the process, men will spend 60% of their time choosing the perfect flowers and another 15% writing the message on the card that will accompany those flowers.

According to Greg Smith, Vice President of Merchandising at ProFlowers, “Time and time again, classic roses are a popular choice among men to gift to their loved one on this day, but non-classic bouquets with a twist have increasingly become bestsellers.”
