Easter Seals Celebrates 20-Year Shop&Care Partnership with Food Lion Family of Banners, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food

Shop&Care campaign runs Feb. 9 – March 8

Raleigh, NC, February 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- February marks the 20th anniversary of the annual Easter Seals Shop&Care program at Food Lion, Bloom, Reid’s and Bottom Dollar Food stores. Throughout these stores in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states, shoppers can purchase specially-marked Shop&Care products to support Easter Seals, a national nonprofit that helps children, families and adults with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve personal goals. Since 1991, the Food Lion family of banners has raised more than $25 million to support Easter Seals.

Between Feb. 9 and March 8, shoppers will be encouraged to make a $1 donation during checkout. Last year, shoppers overwhelmingly shared their support by contributing more than $1.5 million to the campaign. This year, when shoppers donate at the register they can save $3 on their grocery bill when they also purchase participating products from Proctor & Gamble and Kraft Foods. Shoppers can also leverage their buying power when they purchase products from General Mills, Food Lion and Breyer’s Ice Cream. Each company will make a donation to Easter Seals when these specially-marked products are sold during the campaign period. In all, more than 100 manufacturers are supporting Easter Seals through the Shop&Care campaign.

“Our company is a proud supporter of Easter Seals,” said Chris Blumenthal, Food Lion Family, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food community relations manager. “We truly value our longstanding partnership with Easter Seals and are honored to support this program and its mission of providing help, hope and independence to children and adults living with disabilities. We are committed to being a good corporate citizen in the communities in which we operate, and we’re proud that all money donated stays local, benefitting the respective community in which it was raised.”

“We are grateful to the Food Lion family of banners, and especially their customers, for making a difference in the lives of children, adults and families managing disabilities and mental health challenges,” said Connie Cochran, president and CEO of Easter Seals UCP North Carolina & Virginia. “Our 20-year partnership is evidence that Food Lion is a great corporate citizen and is passionate about making a difference in local communities. We are also honored that Food Lion ranks second among all contributing national corporate partners for their level of giving.”
