Walden Behavioral Care Plans Free Screenings During National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Confidential Screenings to be Available for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge-Eating Disorder.

Waltham, MA, February 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Walden Behavioral Care announced today that it will provide free, confidential screenings during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, which runs from Feb. 20 through Feb. 26, 2011.

The free screenings are scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at Walden Behavioral Care of Worcester, 335 Chandler St. and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Walden Behavioral Care of Northampton, 109 Main St.

“Millions of Americans have life-threatening eating disorders, yet studies show that most people with eating disorders do not seek treatment,” according to President and CEO Stuart Koman, Ph.D. “Free, confidential screenings will help some people recognize that they need help. We may even save some lives.”

The screenings are based on a standardized survey that identifies symptoms of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. Walden clinical staff will also be on hand to answer questions and discuss the survey results.

Eating disorders are especially common among college students. A survey by the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) found that nearly 20% of the more than 1,000 college students surveyed – both male and female – said they had or previously had eating disorders.
