Eco-legacy, a 21st Century Woman's Heritage -

A child of the era ‘tell instead of read’ me a story, Glen Allen VA based The Wright Scoop – consultant, lecturer, & wordsmith Sylvia Hoehns Wright urges all to document their heritage. In her book, A Path Worn Smooth dedicated to the people of her community Laurel Historic District, Wright invites readers to walk on a path worn smooth by generational expectation. Savor nostalgia for the places that are near and dear to heart, recall family traditions and more importantly, renew experiences. Challenging all to celebrate heritage because heritage is more than a possession, it is a gift: the birthright of our children. In draft format, Wright’s book received the 2006 Writer’s Connection VA Book Competition Award. Through donating an excerpt to an anthology – Happy Birthday, Mr. Lincoln, Wright is also one of nation-wide contributors recognized by the 2009 Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge George Washington Metal for their collaborative effort to promote an understanding and appreciation of America’s rich heritage and unique freedoms.

The Influence of Eco-Legacy -
"Although three generations removed from a Quaker heritage influence," Wright says, "I’ve identified one central guideline – caretaker – that continues to affect my perspective.” Aware her legacy not only initiated a caretaker perspective but all aspects of life experience, Wright placed a portion of her property under a protective ‘scenic easement’. Somewhat jokingly, she refers to the history of a present-day title, eco-chic landscape gardener. “Initially,” says Wright, “media referred to my eco-strategies as the by-product of a naturalist. Then, when I contributed to state-wide media publications, I became known as eco-wise. After speaking and publishing in the DC area, my work was referred to as eco-savvy. It was through participating in the annual Green Festival held in DC that I picked up the label, eco-chic. Nevertheless, regardless of term as long as people hear my message – strive to achieve ‘ultimate green’, I’m happy.”

As a result of her eco advocacy, Wright was invited to host a workshop - Changing America’s Landscape - for the Congressional City Conference held in Washington DC on March 12, 2011 at 9:00 am. To register link to web site www.nlc.org or call (202) 626-3000.
