$1.8 Million Raised For Easter Seals in First Week of Shop&Care Campaign at Food Lion, Reid’s, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food Stores

Shop&Care campaign runs from February 9 - March 8, 2011 and benefits Easter Seals.

Raleigh, NC, February 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Food Lion, Reid’s, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food stores are fast approaching their goal to raise $3.4 million in the annual Shop&Care campaign to benefit Easter Seals. The campaign kicked off February 9, and in its first week, the retailers have already raised $1.8 million. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Shop&Care for Easter Seals program.

“We are honored by Food Lion’s long-standing commitment to our mission,” said Connie Cochran, President and CEO of Easter Seals UCP North Carolina & Virginia. “We are grateful to Food Lion and its sister banners, and especially their customers, for making a difference in the lives of children, adults and families managing disabilities and mental health challenges.”

Shoppers have a variety of opportunities to support Easter Seals through the Shop&Care campaign at Food Lion, Bloom, Reid’s and Bottom Dollar Food stores. Customers who make a $1 donation during checkout will save $3 on their grocery bill when they purchase participating products from Proctor & Gamble and Kraft Foods. Shoppers can also leverage their buying power when they purchase select General Mills, Breyer’s Ice Cream and Hannaford- or Food Lion-brand products; each company is making a donation to Easter Seals when specially-marked, participating items are sold during the campaign period, which ends March 8. In all, more than 100 manufacturers are supporting Easter Seals through the Shop&Care campaign. Shoppers will find 230 products marked with a special Shop&Care shelf tag.

Food Lion is also giving a $10,000 bonus to an Easter Seals affiliate through the $10,000 Shop&Care Challenge. Supporters can vote for their favorite Easter Seals affiliate at www.shopandcare.com/challenge.

Since 1991, the Food Lion family of banners has raised more than $25 million to support Easter Seals.
