Inmarkets One-Day Conference: Practical Approaches for Complying with the UK Bribery Act

With the Bribery Act 2010 due to come into force later this year and the government’s final guidance notes nowhere in sight, businesses are thirsty for clarity on several aspects of the most comprehensive piece of bribery legislation in the world.

London, United Kingdom, February 24, 2011 --( E-learning company Inmarkets is bringing together a selection of the industry experts on bribery prevention in a one-day conference on Friday 25th February. PwC, Clifford Chance, Safecall and Compliance Business will join forces with Inmarkets to focus on the practical application of the ‘adequate procedures’ originally laid out by the Ministry of Justice. During the day, leading lights will discuss how to assess your risks, implement suitable practices and demystify the protocols if bribery is found in your organisation. Senior team members from Aviva and Centrica will also discuss their experiences and offer their angle on implementing solid procedures within the workplace.

The Bribery Act 2010 has been delayed for a second time amid concerns within government that not enough direction has been given to businesses in how to deal with such far-reaching elements of the Act. Once new guidance is released, the Act will come into full force three months later. However Catriona Razic, Director of Inmarkets, claims that companies should not wait before acting. “Essentially the guidance offered by the government will not affect the legal purpose of the Bribery Act itself. Companies should be working with the spirit of the Act to assess any risks they face and work out the best options for ensuring that organisational culture is aligned and procedures are in place to promote best practices. Inmarkets’ Bribery Prevention e-learning course, coupled with suitable tools, apps and solid compliance infrastructure are all key to offering clarity of approach within your organisation.”
