Mate1.com Announces Winners of Check Please! Contest

60,000 YouTube Views Propels “The Giant” to Most Awkward Date of All Time Status

New York, NY, February 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- After three months of video submissions and votes, the winner of the Mate1.com Check Please Contest has finally been crowned. For his part in what will now be known as the most awkward date of all time, Steve Kardynal of Michigan was not only chosen by Pauly Shore as the winner, but rewarded with a $5,000 Grand Prize.

Pauly Shore, star of Encino Man, Bio Dome and Son in Law and the Check Please! Judge, chose Steve because of his hilariously awkward date and because of the huge following the video had.

“Congratulations, Bro. $5,000 is a lot of money. You could probably get a mail order bride for that,” Shore said in a congratulatory video to Steve.

As of February 21, 2011 the video had received 58,000 views, 107 comments and 336 likes on YouTube alone. That doesn’t even take into account the 10,000 views on the contest website and thousands of votes from that same site and via Facebook and Twitter.

“We’re happy we could empower singles everywhere to laugh, rather than cringe, at their awkward dating experiences,” says Elizabeth Wasserman, CEO of Mate1.com.

About the Mate1.com Check Please! contest:
Every ten seconds, somewhere in the world, a date horrifically turns awkward. Eyes shift downward. Faces get red. People squirm. Then silence. Finally someone exclaims, “Check Please!” In the Fall of 2010, the team at the world-renowned dating site Mate1.com decided it was time to do something about this silent buzz killer. To succeed, they knew they needed the help of someone who understood the struggle of awkwardness in a deep and personal way and Pauly Shore answered their call. Together, Pauly and Mate1.com helped free humanity from the scourge of awkward dates by accepting video submissions from people across North America who were ready to talk about their awful dates for a chance at $5,000.
